And he wouldn’t have been disappointed by the stunt pulled by a 24-year-old woman who identified herself as the “Taxi” star’s daughter took the stage Monday night during the Andy Kaufman Awards in New York City to claim that her dad is very much still living, despite the May 16, 1984, death certificate that says otherwise, The Comic’s Comic first reported.
“He just wanted to be a stay-at-home dad, because that’s why he wanted to leave the show biz,” she can be heard telling Kaufman’s brother, Michael, who hosted the annual awards show at Manhattan’s Gotham Comedy Club, in a video that surfaced on TMZ.com. According to the New York Times, Mr Kaufman considered himself an entertainer, rather than a comedian. “I am not a comic, I have never told a joke,” he said. “The comedian’s promise is that he will go out there and make you laugh with him. My only promise is that I will try and entertain you as best I can.
